Bullet List Everything
Your resume will read better in general if all of the information is precise and bulleted. Long paragraphs are not inviting to the hiring manager that will often have dozens of applications to look through. A good impression is made by simplifying the content of your accomplishments and listing them so that the hiring manager can quickly glance at the whole of it. Avoid Speaking in First Person
It is your resume, but it doesn’t read well when it contains personal pronouns. Rather than sounding like your job was a collaborative effort between coworkers, it sounds as if you think the workplace revolved around you and also that you are not very good at working with a team. Words to avoid include I, my, and me. WRONG: Patient Account Technician09/2000 to 12/2002 North Kansas City HospitalNorth Kansas City, MO In my position I was responsible for billing Medicare. List Professional Experience in Reverse-Chronological Order
Not only should you list your past experience in reverse-chronological order, but making sure to include your current employment is advised as well. The reason for this is that in most cases, your current and/or most recent job experience will be related to the job you are applying for, which is what the hiring manager will want to see. Additionally, it’s an unfortunate truth that age discrimination exists. When listing professional experience, don’t give details for jobs that you held longer than 15 years ago. Instead, just list the bare bones for that job, such as your position, the employer, city/state and dates. You may even add an entirely separate section for Prior Experience instead of adding these older jobs to the Professional Experience portion of your resume.
Remove Coursework Information
Unless there is a course that a prospective employer requires, there is no need to list coursework under your educational experience. In fact it could make the resume look longer and more tedious to look through.
