Keep your skills section short
The biggest problem this resume suffers from is the length of its sections. Typically, writers cut the summary too short, but this writer got it just right. Unfortunately, following section, which details the writers skills, is significantly too long. For reference, your skill section should be two columns of about three or four points. Note that the skills listed here are all over the place. It is better to focus your information a little. This list includes everything from Fluent in Spanish to Complex problem solving. It even includes specific qualifications, such as Fire pump systems. While it is good to cover all your bases, you each point should detail the same kind of skill. If you would like to list personal attributes or training you have received, it is fine, but do not throw some oddballs in as well. Additionally, some of these points are redundant, such as Technical problem solving and Complex problem solving. You cannot afford to waste space like that. Finally, make sure that your entire resume is professional and error free. That blank bullet point is doing nothing except damaging the writers image.
Manage your experience section
There are several different problems with this work experience section. Just like the skills section before it, it is too long. It details seven different positions, over the course of 40 years. While this is typically considered to be too many, you should also leave some of your older jobs out. They were too long ago to still be relevant. Think about what information you are trying to convey by including them, and decide if that information is important enough to be included elsewhere. For example, the oldest position mentions, Responsible for new projects, Include: methods, cost, and benefit analysis. If the writer decided that they really wanted to show this information off, they could include Product development or Benefit analysis in their skills section. If the position itself is what you want to communicate, you can mention it in your summary. There are no rules about this sort of thing, so always consider whether or not including anything will improve or hurt the way employers perceive you. Also, despite the high number of positions listed, there is still a major gap in employment, from 1980 to 1988. Sometimes you need to get creative for covering up your gaps, but in this case, the final position could simply be taken off. If need be, mention any schooling, volunteer, or internship experiences that fell in that period.
Keep the length in mind
In addition to individual sections being too long, the entire resume is too long. The rule of thumb is one page unless outlining more than 10 years of experience. Perhaps this is what the writer had in mind when creating this document, but none of the information from more than 10 years ago is worthwhile enough to justify the added length. If you take two pages to convey all the information, make sure you have a very good reason and that it cannot be compressed any further.
