There are plenty of general tips to be learned by reading this single resume, so take the following guidelines to heart.
Include a summary instead of an objective
This sample resume contains the following statement within the summary section: Focused on securing a professional position within a well structured organization, where my culinary experience and skills will greatly contribute to the growth and overall success of the Establishment. She is talking about how her goal is to obtain some new position, but that information is already conveyed through the fact that she is sending her resume to this employer in the first place. You do not need to include an objective statement in your work resume because it is only going to come across as redundant. Instead, you want to have a general summary of your skills, experiences and personality traits that provide a concise overview of what you would bring to this company as an employee.
For highlights section, you would actually want to include highlights
This resume sample has a header that states Highlights, but nothing is given. It is incredibly useful to include a portion of your resume that is dedicated to the various skills you possess that are relevant to the job you are trying to get. You just want to make sure that you actually include some. You should utilize bullet points in this section, and you want to aim to have somewhere between three to eight points in a column. You can use two columns if you have a lot to say.
Current jobs should be talked about in present tense
In order to properly convey the fact that you currently work at your present job, you want to talk about your various responsibilities in the present tense. Right now, this sample resume has the following points for the job she has now:
Every single point is written in the incorrect tense, so you would simply want to change them to the right one like this:
Put most recent education first
This resume sample has two places of education: her high school diploma and a certificate she received in culinary arts. However, her high school education comes first despite the fact that her certificate is more recent. You always want to organize everything in the education and work history sections by whatever is most recent, and as a matter of fact, you do not even really need to include your high school diploma if you have a secondary education. A certificate in culinary arts is more relevant to where she is in her career at this moment, so including her time in high school is just wasting space. Writing a resume is something that needs to be done precisely according to guidelines or else you may not even get an interview.
