For virtually any job you apply for, you are going to need to send the hiring manager a comprehensive resume that goes over your skillset and past work experiences. You want to make sure everything on this paper is correctly formatted and portrays you in a positive light. Summary should be a 30-second pitch
The reason why so many experts say that you should start your resume off with a quick summary is that it gives the reader a good sense of whether the rest of the page is going to be worthwhile or not. A great summary can give someone a good impression and make them read the rest of what you have to say with enthusiasm. However, a poor summary can make a hiring manager hesitant to read the rest of your resume, and they could just skip it over entirely in order to get to better-written resumes. The usual recommendation is to have a summary that is four to six lines in length, so this writer would want to include a couple more lines to reach the desired length.
Use bulleted lists for Accomplishments and Experience sections
All of the material given for your past achievements and job-related experiences should be presented with bullet points. They are easy enough to add, and they will make the information easier to get through. Although the same thing should be done for this sample’s Experience section, we are going to use Accomplishments as our example and reformat it thusly:
Include details if applicable
An employer is going to go through a ton of applications for any given job opening, and you need to stand out in his or her mind. An excellent way to do this is to include specific facts and quantifiable details instead of just listing a general job description. For example, one of the points given above states that the candidate was recognized for going above and beyond what was expected. It would be great if there was something specific mentioned like an award or promotion that was received.
Refrain from using Responsible for when discussing work history
When you start talking about your responsibilities at every place of employment, you want each statement to begin with an active verb. You do not want to be boring and start with something that is just sort of passive. This sample resume contains an instance of the phrase Responsible for, so it should be eliminated and replaced with something more interesting.
Eliminate high school diploma if you are currently in or have already graduated from college
Looking at this sample’s Education section, we see the applicant has put information related to going to community college along with a high school diploma. The only time when you still need to include information from high school is if that is the only education you have. If anything else is given, then a hiring manager will know you completed high school first.
