If you are applying to be a legal secretary, you need to use a great resume sample to ensure that your resume is top-notch. This legal resume sample, along with this advice about what you should use and what you should leave out, will help you make a resume that you can be proud to send to potential employers.
Properly Format Experience
This sample resume has some great experience. However, there are a few noticeable issues. First, there are some large gaps in employment. Nothing is listed from September 1998 until January of 2004. Any employer would be concerned with an eight year gap in employment. It’s likely that the applicant did a different job during those eight years that aren’t relevant to being a legal secretary. If this happens, you should include the other employment to avoid the gap. Also, make sure your present employer is listed, again to avoid another large gap in employment. The other issue with the employment is the lack of bullet points. It makes the experience overwhelming. Instead of writing, legal secretary over and over again, you can just write it once and the different places that you worked at. Here are a few different ways that you could format the work experience. Legal Secretary November 2011 to April 2012 Smith Dollar PC ? Santa Rosa, CA
Legal Secretary February 2004 to March 2009 Sheridan & Associates ? Sacramento, CA
This way looks much cleaner with the bullet lists. It’s easy to read and not so overwhelming. Here is how it would look if you only wrote legal secretary once. Legal Secretary Smith Dollar PC ? Santa Rosa, CA – November 2011 to April 2012 Sheridan & Associates ? Sacramento, CA – February 2004 to March 2009 Rahn Holbrook & Murphy ? Sacramento, CA – January 2004 to February 2004 Brobeck Phleger & Harrison ? San Francisco, Ca – April 1990 to September 1998
You could put all of your duties under all of the employment like this, or you can do a few under each one.
Make sure you thoroughly proofread your resume. If you are applying to be a legal secretary, they aren’t going to hire someone who has typos in their resume. They’ll assume that it will lead to typos in your work. This sample resume has many typos, and it could be what causes you to lose your chance at a position. This sample legal secretary resume is a great example of what you should add to yours. Just follow this advice and make your own amazing resume on LiveCareer.
