Careful with the Copy and Paste
It looks like this user copied and pasted the text of their current resume into the template for their new resume. Their Summary begins with the words, Profile Summary. It may help you to read your resume aloud to identify proofreading errors. Its much easier to hear mistakes when theyre spoken rather than read silently. You resume is your potential employers first look at the quality of your work. Shoddy proofreading will cause a hiring manager to immediately discard your resume, particularly if there are errors within the first section. The Summary in particular is a solid glimpse of an applicants work, as its the best place to see the individuals narrative voice. Use that summary section to its fullest potential by making sure to illustrate the best facets of you.
Accomplishments and Education
This section should include at least three items, else these points are best left to another section. Using this section but only including one item can give the subliminal impression that you havent accomplished much, when in reality youve accomplished great things. Include the thing you mightve otherwise listed here in the experience section to give that section a boost and show yourself off without sacrificing anything. Both the accomplishments and education sections should be short and sweet, just a statement of what youve got and nothing more. Its unnecessary to list out a high school diploma if youve earned a college degree, as the reader will naturally assume you completed high school before attaining your college degree.
Abbreviations can be tricky things. Those acronyms and abbreviations that you use daily can bite you in a resume. Spelling them out the first time you use them is always advisable, unless they are acronyms that everyone even those outside your field would know. On the other end of the spectrum, try to avoid particularly common words like manage and responsible for. Those are vastly overused in resumes, and you want to stand out from the crowd. Instead, try briefly detailing what you did exactly, or better, use quantifiable metrics instead of a list of tasks. Your job description might be handy to your potential employer, but it wont make you look like the best prospect. The applicant that shows how he excelled at that job will look like the best prospect. Rather than Prepare agreements for short sale and settlement offers for management approval Prepare weekly remittance report of monies received from LCS for the payment processing group Conduct credit update and lien release tasks once settlement funds are complete, try something like, Prepare over 500 agreements for short sale and settlement offers for management approval per week. The bit that says, Prepare weekly remittance report of monies received from LCS for the payment processing group, and Conduct credit update and lien release tasks once settlement funds are complete, should be separate items entirely. That appears to be another copy and paste error. Additionally, sentence fragments after a bullet should end in a period. That closes out the thought properly, rather than leaving it hanging. Limit these items to eight or less, overwhelming the reader with too many details will backfire on you and leave them hesitant to engage you any further. Pick out the ones that show your talents in the best light, and list them in order of importance with the best points first and the least impressive last.
