However, you should check to make sure that the information in each section is actually different from the information in the other section. Typically, Skills sections are used to showcase technical abilities, while Highlights focus on softer, less quantifiable skills such as communication. This sample presents a strong list of skills; however, the Highlights section creates some confusion by including both technical skills such as quality coding and soft skills like problem solver. A better option would have been to move the technical skills information to the Skills section.
Pay attention to bullet point format and phrasing
For consistent formatting and clarity of expression, each bullet point describing your past experience should begin with an active verb. WRONG:
Each bullet point should contain one central piece of relevant information. In this sample, the applicant sometimes proceeds to include an entire paragraph in one bullet point, increasing the chances that important information will be skimmed over and fail to make its due impression. Don’t let crucial points be lost in an indistinguishable sea of verbiage. Separate your information logically and make it easier for hiring managers to focus on your qualifications. WRONG:

Do not include high school information
Unless you are still in college or graduated very recently, your high school information is not of interest to prospective employers. In this resume sample, a substantial section is dedicated to high school accomplishments, which are impressive but not relevant to an IT director position. According to the information on the resume, the applicant graduated from high school almost 10 years ago, which is significantly too far back to be mentioned now. This space would have been better used to better organize the applicant’s professional achievements. Hiring managers are looking for qualities that will contribute positively to the position in question; if these qualities do not instantly pop out on your resume, the potential employer will not take the time to sort through extraneous material to get to them.
