Having the ability to create a resume that is concise and effectively communicates all of your skills and experiences is important when searching for a job. Writing the summary
The summary is the first part of your resume that will introduce your experiences to the reader and, hopefully, hook them. Unlike the summary in this sample, you should not include information about your objectives. This used to be the standard, but it can now be assumed that your goal is to attain the job you are applying for. Instead, you should describe what skills you have developed, what work experiences you have had, and what unique professional traits you can offer. The summary is one of the best opportunities to sell yourself to employers, so do not hold back. The summary should be four lines long, so this sample is also too short.
The biggest mistake that this sample resume makes is excluding the skill highlights section. After the summary, and before the experience information, dedicate a section to outlining relevant skills that you have mastered that will be beneficial to anyone looking to hire you. This section should be in the form of a bulleted list, with two columns of three or four points each. It is best to include variety in your skills to show that you are a well-rounded individual. You can include more general skills, such as Self-motivated or Communication skills, technical and specific skills, and everything in between. Just be sure that you do not repeat yourself or include points that are too similar to each other.
The standard sections
It is important to realize that the section order has already been established. Employers will expect your resume to follow this standard, which was developed to make it easiest to gain the information they need quickly. It is expected that your resume is organized like this: Summary, skill highlights, experiences, education. In addition to these, you can include information about accomplishments or awards before the experiences and affiliations or certification at the end. As previously mentioned, this sample resume failed to add the highlights section, but it also added an Additional information section, which was unnecessary. The information found in this section should have been included in the experiences section.
Managing the length
It is also important that you keep the length of your resume in mind. It should be your goal to fill a single page as completely as possible without extending onto a second page. It can be acceptable to have two pages only if you are covering more than 10 years of working experiences and you cannot fit it all on one sheet. This sample is far too short; always look out for blank or wasted space that can be filled. To fix this, the missing section should be added and the summary should be lengthened as previously discussed. Additionally, some of the optional sections can also be added. Finally, each position in the experiences section should have five to eight points, so there is also room to expand that section.
The final review
Finally, after you have finished writing, always review your resume to catch any typographical errors. This resume has some poor punctuation and, most notably, accidental bullet points at the end of the experiences section.
