When you are writing your own housekeeper resume, it can be critically important to look at a hotel housekeeper resume sample. Our experts have taken a look at one such resume sample in order to show you some of the common errors found in these documents. Taking note of these blunders will help you to steer clear of them when writing your own resume.
Your work history section should always be listed in chronological order. When you are listing your current and past positions, make sure to start with your most recent employment. Because this section is expected to be in chronological order, listing it backwards makes it look like you haven’t worked since your first position ended. You can clearly see that mistake when looking at the sample resume. A hiring manager may look at this resume and assume the job applicant hasn’t worked since their very first position. They may put it down or throw it away without ever noticing the error.
When writing about your current position, make sure to write in present tense. Similarly, all past positions should be written in past tense. In the sample resume, the job applicant writes all of her work history entries in past tense, including her current position. While it may seem disorganized to write in multiple tenses, it will show that you are paying attention to your work and still presently thinking about your current position. Writing in past tense about a current position implies that you have already checked-out of your present job, which is not necessarily a good thing. Incorrect: December 2007 to Current Palazzo Resort and Casino Las Vegas, NV Housekeeper
Correct: December 2007 to Current Palazzo Resort and Casino Las Vegas, NV Housekeeper
Always proofread for even the smallest errors in your resume. Making sure all names and numbers are correct is extremely important. Also, all numbers under 10 should be written out, not expressed in numerals. In the sample resume, several sections on the bulleted lists are without periods. All parts of a bulleted list should have periods at the end. Go back and check your work several times throughout the creation process. Even the most advanced word processors can miss some errors. Ensuring that your resume is free from any silly or easily missed mistakes can be crucial when searching for a job.
If you choose to include an accomplishments section, it should contain relevant professional achievements that are germane to you personally. There should also be a minimum of three accomplishments listed. In the sample resume, you see she only has one listed accomplishment. Instead of creating a special segment, this can be incorporated into the work experience section.
Don’t Include High School
Writing your resume allows you to acknowledge your accomplishments, but some are made redundant by additional information. If you have any college, university or vocational training, you do not need to also include your high school or GED information. By stating that you have completed college coursework, it is implied that you have either graduated high school or earned your GED. As such, this information does not need to be included in your resume. All of your college information, such as all degrees or certificates earned, should be included if they are relevant.
