Always Begin With Your Most Current Information
Depending on your relevant experience, you’ll have ample opportunity to list your qualifications on your resume. When dates are involved, you should list your most recent information first and continue in chronological order. In the resume sample, the applicant does the reverse. As you develop in your career, employers will be less concerned with what you did several years ago. Instead, they will focus on what you’ve done recently because it gives a more accurate snapshot of your professional merits. That said your entire work history is still relevant in that it will show your ability to maintain employment. Furthermore, it can show how you’ve had an opportunity to develop various skill sets. Please note, if you choose to include the address of your past employers, be consistent in the format and how much information your list.
Give Enough Information
Generally, each entry in your past professional experience section should have 5 to 8 bullet points. This is enough to give an accurate idea of your responsibilities without being able to write a full job description. If you completed a lost of tasks, choose what is most relevant to the position your applying to. In this sample, the applicant lists anywhere from 2 to 5 bullets. This is a great start, but this section needs a bit more. Luckily, this applicant has plenty of space to work with. Like the sample, be sure to start each bullet with a strong action verb or word. However, the sample uses periods inconsistently. In the section, standard practice dictates that periods should punctuate each phrase. Make Your Summary Count
The bulk of your resume will be boiled down to short and powerful phrases matched with clean bullet points. Because your have one or two pages to convey the scope of your professional merit, your need to use every bit of space to your advantage without visually crowding the document. In this sample, the applicant uses bullets very well, but the summary needs work. The summary is the only place you get to use longer phrases, so do your best to truly show that you are what the hiring manager wants in an employee.
