A step you can take towards preparing an excellent resume is to look at other examples from the same field. Our experts have analyzed this Healthcare Unit Clerk resume sample and identified all the common mistakes and errors in order to help you to avoid making the same mistakes when writing your own resume. So take down these resume-writing pointers and use them well.
Separate your information into appropriate categories
If there is a lot of information crowded into one section, consider splitting it up into two or three. In the sample resume, there are some specific skills included in the same section with personal highlights. These can be separated to provide better organization while also highlighting each specific point more effectively. Try to keep phrases short and do not include periods at the ends. WRONG: Skill Highlights
RIGHT: Personal Highlights
All lists should be in bullet point format
A bullet list will be easier to read than a paragraph form, and it will bring more attention to each individual point you want to emphasize. Make sure to start each point with a strong action verb and end with a period. This way your resume will appear more professional and the lists will appear longer. There should be 5-8 bullet points per section, but if the list of duties is really extensive it is okay to go a bit over that number. Keep things in present tense for as current job and past tense for previous work. WRONG: UNIT CLERK 08/2009 ? Keep things trim and relevant
It is probably not going to be very helpful for the sample resume to include job history as an Air Traffic Controller when applying for a job in Healthcare. There may be a way to describe the job as having provided qualifications for what is being applied for, but it would need to be reworded. The education section can include relevant course work and achievements, but does not need to include such performance-describing statements as completed projects on deadlines. A much better indicator of performance in school would be a hard form of proof, like a high GPA or honorable recognition.
