A paragraph should start off your resume
It is preferable to start your resume off with a concise summary that briefly goes over your personality traits, talents and experiences. It should give the reader a good sense of what to expect for the rest of your resume, so if your summary is written poorly, then an employer may assume everything else is bad as well. A good rule of thumb to follow is that you want your summary to be a solid paragraph in length. This resume sample only has two sentences in its summary, so the job applicant would want to add a couple more lines in order to provide enough information.
Divide highlights into two columns
This is an optional rule, but it is something to consider if you are looking for ways to save space on the paper. All resumes should contain a section devoted to the job candidate’s skills, and each individual skill should be given its own bullet point. Each point should be brief, which means you can get away with dividing that particular part into two columns. This sample resume just has one long list, but you could split it up like this:
Include bullet points with work history
This sample resume has an Experience section that is almost formatted correctly. She does a good job of giving each individual statement its own line, but each line needs to begin with a bullet point. This will make it abundantly clear when one sentence ends and another sentence begins. Adding bullet points is simple enough, so you would just want to add them within Microsoft Word.
Numbers lower than 10 should be written out
This is a small thing to fix, but when you are trying to impress a hiring manager, all the details count. Proper grammar rules state that any numbers that are nine or less should be written out while numbers that are 10 or greater should be written using numerals. Divide education more clearly
As it is presented now on this sample resume, it looks as though she earned her high school diploma from Fullerton College. Maybe it is correct, but it would make more sense if she earned her diploma somewhere else, and she is currently working toward her degree at Fullerton College. You never want an employer to be confused about something on your resume because he or she may not bother to call you in for an interview. Be clear and specific with every last detail.
