Separate information into appropriate categories
Having a section or two to highlight some skills and personality traits is a great idea before the Experience section, but you’ll want to make sure to separate actual training and knowledge from soft skills and personality traits. Making one section into two will make the applicant in the sample resume appear much more qualified, and it the document will have better organization as a whole. WRONG: Highlights
If the job being described is current, write in present tense
This could be a simple error not noticed in revising for grammar. However, it will be noticed by whoever is reading your resume. Clean these mistakes up to have a more professional appearance and to avoid confusion. Think of statements in your resume as first-person sentences with the personal pronoun removed.
Include 5-8 bullet points per entry in your experience section
Part of what has happened in the sample resume is that the applicant has stuffed one bullet point in each entry with a lot of things that could each have their own bullet point. You will want to start each point with a strong action verb as well. Think of ways to creatively describe the ways you performed your duties to fill up these sections. It will make you look that much more appealing. WRONG: Unicentric, Inc November 2012 to Current Form and Report Developer/Half-Time FTE Project Manager Pittsburgh, PA
