A good resume is key to landing a job interview and eventually being offered the position. Without it, you will be facing a lot of challenges in your job search. Fortunately, our experts have read and studied this framer resume sample to see what can be corrected, and they have some general tips to offer that can be applied to anyones resume.
Do not double-space
When you submit a resume, it should only be one or two pages long, and there is a lot of information that needs to be presented in a limited amount of space. You would not want to do something wasteful like double-space every section, which is the case for this sample resume. You can stick to just having every line come one after the other, and the length of your resume will be cut in half. Every little bit of space counts, so do not let it go to waste.
Include a summary
There are some sections of a resume that should be essential no matter what kind of job you are hoping to get. Everyone should begin their resume the same way: with a concise paragraph that provides a general overview of what you have to offer the organization. This section should be titled Summary, and it is a great way to make a hiring manager intrigued to read the rest of the paper. You should not simply drop the reader right in the middle of a list describing your skills. Ease the reader into it, and start off with four to six lines describing your experiences, skills, personality traits and anything else that would make you qualified for the job you want to get.
When discussing work experience, start with most recent first
This sample states that his current job is working at Bach Homes, but that information is not presented until the very bottom. There is no reason to start your Experience section with a job you stopped working at over a decade ago. You want to begin with whatever is more recent and relevant because it will show where you are in your career now. To fix this, we would want to swap everything around, so Bach Homes comes first while J&L Schweiters comes last.
Write using the right grammatical tenses
Once you have moved your most recent positions to the top of the section, you will want to make sure that everything is written correctly. That largely means making sure that every bullet point begins with a verb that is written in the correct tense based on whether you currently work there or have already quit. All of the points given for Bach Homes are written in the past tense despite the fact that he is still performing these tasks. Using the first few as an example, they should be rewritten as such:
The number of bullet points for each job should be between five and eight
This sample resume has plenty of work experience, but the number of bullet points for each job ranges greatly. In order to create a sense of consistency, you want to aim for around five to eight points for each job. You do not want a specific position to have very little information, but you also want to avoid an overabundance of details that make your resume run far too long.
