Crafting a perfect resume can be a tough undertaking, especially if you are just starting out in the workforce. However, it is a lot easier than many people make it out to be, and an easy way to get better at writing resumes is to peruse through a first grade teacher resume sample to see what other people have done. Resumes should be about a page long
The standard length for a resume is one page long although people who have been in the workforce for a while can generally get away with two pages. However, this sample resume does not even make it to half a page. You certainly do not want to include a bunch of fluff, but you should be able to think about all the skills and experiences you have that have been gained either professional or volunteer work that could be beneficial to put on a resume.
Have a concise summary at the top of your resume
This resume does not have a summary at all despite it being an integral part of any resume. The summary is basically your initial pitch to the employer. This is your opportunity to sell yourself and convince the reader that you are the most qualified applicant for the job, and you should be able to do this in about four to six lines. You should include a mix of skills and personality traits in this section, which allows your potential employer to get a general sense of who you are as a person to see if you would be a good fit.
Avoid personality traits in experience section
This resume states that the person does not really have experience despite working at Ukrainian Catholic School as a teacher of first graders. In lieu of accomplishments or contributions, she has just listed a bunch of traits that really anyone should have in this line or work and are not really appropriate to put under work history. Even if you do not have a lot of work experience, there is still something you must have done at your current or previous places of work, so include as much as you can in this section.
Organize experience section using bullet points
The way in which this resumes experience section is formatted right now is just one single paragraph. Employers want to see this information divided with bullet points, so it is much easier to read and follow along to. In addition to adding significant contributions to the organization, this resumes experience section should go something like this:
Include courses, internships and certifications in education section if applicable
As mentioned previously, this resume is very short, and an easy way to lengthen it out even with a lack of work experience is to include what courses you took in college. This may seem like padding, but it is actually an effective way to let the employer know what areas you are proficient in. If you participated in any internships while in college or earned any certificates, you should feel free to include them in this section as well. Your resume is the first impression you will be able to make when applying for a new job, so it is important to learn all the ins-and-outs, so you write a good one.
