Do not include excessive numbers of highlights
The sample resume showcases a highlights section that takes up half of a page. Although the candidate has many skills and certifications, it is hard to identify the most important highlights of this section. Do not make the reviewer search for what is most important because they might get frustrated and give up. Take time to consolidate highlights or remove ones that are not as critical. See an example below of consolidating a few of the highlights to one entry. WRONG: Highlights
Remove nonessential information from the job experience section header
One of the major goals of a resume is to convey critical information to an employer about why you are a great candidate. The job experience section is very important to communicate how your previous jobs prepared you. The example resume shows a candidate that put too much information in the header. This block of text makes it hard to read and mentally organize the job information. As a general rule, you can remove mailing addresses from a header. Additionally, only include your salary and hours per week if you consider this information critical for the job for which you are applying. Long paragraphs that outline job experience makes it difficult for a hiring manager to easily identify the most important experiences that make you the best candidate for the job.
