If you are in the process of applying for a new position, then you might be wondering how you can make the strongest first impression possible. The answer is crafting an excellent resume. In order to help you out with this, we have reviewed a sample Fast Food Restaurant Manager resume and outlined some areas that are problematic or could be reworked. Be sure to focus on these areas because they can help you avoid the same mistakes is your own writing. Before you know it, you will feel confident in your resume and ready to move on towards that next step in your career.
Avoid using pronouns
The summary section is a great opportunity to outline the unique qualities and skill sets you possess that could potentially set you apart from other candidates. Think of the summary as a sort of sales pitch. That being said, it is important to follow standard format and avoid using pronouns. First person is certainly appropriate for cover letters but should not be used for resumes. The final sentence of the applicants summary could be reworked to provide a more attention-grabbing statement. Also note that fragments are acceptable here.
Accomplishment section should have at least three items
The accomplishment section should have at least three bullet points; otherwise, the items are better off under specific job experiences. The accomplishment section is great for listing personal achievements relevant to the field, but is not necessary for a strong resume.
Always use bullet points
Formatting is crucial when it comes to writing a successful resume. Because the reader may not have time to devote to reading through blocks of text, he or she may dismiss your application because it is sloppy looking. The applicant has listed relevant experience with concise, descriptive language. Even if the information is spectacular, the way in which it is presented can make all the difference. Notice the difference between these two formats: WRONG: ServerFeb 2012 to Aug 2012 Sonic Drive-In ? Moyock, NC Up-sold additional menu items, beverages and desserts to increase restaurant profits.Took necessary steps to meet customer needs and effectively resolve food or service issues.Recorded customer orders and repeated them back in a clear, understandable manner. Resolved guest complaints promptly and professionally. RIGHT: ServerFeb 2012 to Aug 2012 Sonic Drive-In — Moyock, NC
Notice how a simple change and formatting can make a significant impact on the readability of the resume.
Keep Education section brief
The education section is primarily for you to list your college and any relevant degrees or coursework. Here the applicant has provided a paragraph summary of her intended path of study. This information would be more appropriate for an interview, and the mentioning of making Deans list can be considered an accomplishment.
