Weve complied a team of resume experts to look over this experienced restaurant manager resume sample and make suggestions for its improvement. Apply this advice to your own revision process to ensure you send in a polished and professional document.
Maximize the Professional Summary
Your professional summary is the only section that calls for a paragraph format and longer phrases. This is the closest you will get to full sentences in this document so use the space well. Think about what merits make you qualified for the job and showcase these abilities. Dont feel the need to go into too much detail as you have the opportunity for more explanation in later sections. Standard practice allow for 4 to 6 lines in this section, but the sample only uses two. The applicant fails to maximize the space allotted and may miss out on making a memorable impression. A revised summary might look like this: Experienced Restaurant Manager who effectively multi-tasks and balances customer needs with company demands. Dedicated professional who efficiently builds loyalty and long-term relationships with customers, while consistently reaching sales targets. Committed leader with highly developed interpersonal skills and thorough understanding of food industry demands. Knowledgeable professional with interest and experience in developing promotions and advertising campaigns.
Fill the Accomplishments Section With Measurable Achievements
What is an accomplishments section? This is an area dedicated to measurable achievements. For example if youve won an award or improved sales by a certain percentage, these are the types of accomplishments that should be listed in this section. The general rule of thumb is to have at least three bullets in this section. If you cant fill it, skip it. This section is mandatory and can detract from your resume when not properly full. For this sample, the applicant describes past job responsibilities. While this information is compelling, it is better suited for the experience section. Playing a key role in the opening of a restaurant is an important detail, but it doesnt quite qualify as an accomplishment as far as the resume is concerned. In this particular case, the applicant should skip the accomplishment section and move the information to other parts of the resume.
Provide Enough Information in the Experience Section
The first entry in the samples experience section is very well done. It has the customary 5 to 8 bullet points and utilizes short phrases ending with a period. The only issue is that since this is a current position the verbs should be in present tense. However, the rest of the entries lack sufficient bullet points and some have multiple phrases per bullet. These issues are easy to fix and an edited second entry would look like the following: Kitchen & Building Manager September 2003 to February 2010 Holy Family Villa / Bishop Timothy Lyne Residence ? Lemont, Illinois
