Getting hired is rarely an easy process. This holds doubly true for anyone who is still trying to build up their experience. This time, our experts have taken a sample environmental service aide resume to highlight some key points. This sample demonstrates a candidate, not long out of school, who has a shorter list of experience. Following the tips here can help you find better ways to manage your resume, whether it is your first time or you have been on the market for decades.
Have a full summary rather than a simple mission statement
This is where you make your very first impression with a potential employer. This section should read as a sales pitch to convince them that you are worth their time and that your resume is worth the full read. A single sentence is efficient, but it is difficult to properly sell yourself in so few words. Wrong: Candidate who specializes in quality service, customer retention, productivity and team management. Right: Passionate and experienced environmental service aide looking to take on new challenges and expand skills. Adept in quality service and control, customer retention, productivity and team management. Excellent at resolving conflicts to promote productive environments and positive attitudes.
All lists should be bulleted
This sample makes good use of bullets for the majority of the resume but leaves them out of the experience section. This is the section that usually benefits from bullet points the most, as it is easy for experience lists and details to clog a page. Using better organization can present the exact same information in a way that is much easier to process, and making it easy for managers to see why they should hire you is the whole purpose of a resume. My achievement were incredible, I started this job in summer and continued to work there for four months at the same time I was on my last year of high school. I was able to sign up for a “school to work” program that my school offered to allow me to take two hours off of high school to work here after school full time. It was not easy but I still managed to get a 4.0 GPA that year and I also received perfect attendance at my job the whole seven months I worked! The bulleted list is more efficient and professional. The adapted language and format emphasizes the accomplishment, removing any unnecessary fluff.
List education according to relevance
In general, lists in a resume should be arranged according to relevance. In most cases, this means listing the most recent accomplishment or experience first. In the case of education, the most recently completed schooling should be at the top of the list. In the case of this resume, the technical school completion is both more recent and more pertinent, so it should definitely come first.
