Keep this information in mind as you work on your resume.
Keep your resume free of personal pronouns
There is no point in your resume at which you should be saying I or me. Your own perspective should be saved for a cover letter. A resume should function as a description of a candidates qualifications from an outside perspective. Think of statements in your resume as first-person sentences with the personal pronouns removed. In a Summary at the beginning of your resume, it is okay to use sentence fragments. WRONG: I possess excellent interpersonal, analytical, and organizational skills which led me to be an effective co-team leader with the skills necessary to direct, train, and motivate staff to its fullest potential. RIGHT: Possesses excellent interpersonal, analytical, and organizational skills. Effective co-team leader with the skills necessary to direct, train, and motivate staff to its fullest potential.
Try to include at least 3-4 bullet points per section
If you are going to include a Highlights section before your Experience section, make sure that it has enough points to be worth including. If you only have a couple points, space can be used more efficiently by sharing them in your experience section. The sample looks like a column of bullets may have accidentally been deleted. WRONG: Highlights
Your Experience section should include 5-8 bullet points for each job
Make sure to use present tense if you are currently in a position and past tense if you have left a position. Try to use different descriptive verbs. The aim is to describe not just the duties performed, but the way in which they were performed. Start each bullet point with a strong action verb and end with a period. Using a thesaurus may be helpful to have a variety of verbs and adjectives. WRONG: Experience Contractor 03-Enrollment Specialist Current to 08/2013 Kelly Services at BCBST Chattanooga, TN
RIGHT: Experience Contractor 03-Enrollment Specialist 08/2013 to Current Kelly Services at BCBST Chattanooga, TN
A slight typo was fixed in the altered version as well: Current to 8/2013 was changed to 8/2013 to Current.
If you have 3 or more accomplishments, include them in a separate Accomplishments section before your job experience
If you have 2 or less accomplishments, include them in Experience. A section titled Additional Information is not necessary, as section titles should be specific. In the sample resume, the Additional Information category can be deleted, and the two achievements moved to the job wherein they were obtained.
