Avoid using pronouns
Using pronouns in your resume is not recommended as it can detract from the professional tone you want to convey. In this resume sample, the applicant has used the first person in the summary section. Remember that your summary is an opportunity to make something of sales pitch about your skills and qualifications. The most effective way of doing so is to write in paragraph form with fragments and vivid language. The applicant has also used the centered the text of the summary which makes it more difficult to read.
The highlights section should come before work experience section
The highlights section is an opportunity to pack your resume with keywords or phrases you will want the employer to remember. It is important that the highlights section come before the work experience section to provide another lens about who you are as a professional and see how these qualities have been applied to your previous jobs. Simply switching the location of the education and highlights section on this resume sample could make a significant improvement.
Always use bullets for listing items
The format of your resume is one of its most important features. You want to make sure that the information is presented as clearly as possible. Proper organization of text means using bullet points to separate items on the resume. Notice the difference between these two formats: WRONG: 01/2013 – Current Outer Limits ?
