The Professional Summary section is designed to give you an opportunity to sell your experience, skills, and traits to potential employers. This applicant lists some of these things in one sentence. With over a decade of relevant experience and education, they should be able to fill this out a little more, but no more than six lines. It should remain in paragraph form.
Always use bullet points to separate listed information
Information that is listed should always use bullet points to create clarity. This applicant fails to use them in the Experience section. Include at least 5 points for each job
It is important to give plenty of work experience details, especially if youve put in many years at a job. This resume only includes three details for a position that was held for over a decade. They would need to add at least 2 more points but no more than 5 to what is already there to flesh it out appropriately.
Dont list GPA if you didnt graduate recently
Unless youve graduated in the last year or two, it is unnecessary to include your GPA. This applicant gives a GPA from a 2002 graduation year. They should delete this information.
Use present tense for ongoing duties
Past tense is only used for previous employment duties because they have already ended. For currently held positions, use present tense. This applicant uses past tense on their current job. To fix this, each verb needs to be changed to present tense.
Include at least 3 accomplishments
The Accomplishments section is a great place to show off metrics. However, you should have at least 3 notable accomplishments before you make a separate section. This applicant only has one, so it should be included in the Experience section instead.
Carefully proofread before submitting
When youre done inputting all the right information, youll need to go back over to make sure youve taken out placeholders, changed misspellings, or corrected other errors. This applicant has extra spaces and left-behind placeholders that make the resume look sloppy. They would need to go section by section to find every error.
Dont use font less than 10-pt
Small font can make for a difficult read for your potential employer, so make sure it is at least 10-pt font. Anything smaller and your resume may just get put aside.
