No matter how good you are at job interviews, you need to be equally skilled in crafting a well-written, comprehensive resume that is informative and easy-to-read. An effective way to get better at this skill is by reading through a construction company owner resume sample to see what someone else has done. Luckily for you, our experts have done quite a bit of leg work already and have gone through the following resume to find what features need to be corrected and improved upon.
Okay to use sentence fragments in summary
The very top portion of your resume should be dedicated to a summary statement that gives the reader a general overview of who you are as an employee and as a person. It is okay to simply start sentences in the section with an action verb and completely omit any first-person noun. For example, the summary as it is now looks like this: Accomplished,Innovative construction manager with demonstrated ability to deliver mission-critical results. Highly motivated, hard working, With solid experience managing all levels of multiple projects including hiring and motivating skilled profesionals. There are also a few grammatical errors as well, so if we were to polish this up, it would look like this: Demonstrated ability to deliver mission-critical results. Highly motivated and hard-working. Solid experience managing all levels of multiple projects including hiring and motivating skilled professionals.
Have bullet points in professional experience section
The writer of this resume has plenty of professional experience, which is a huge asset, but the information needs to be organized more efficiently. The way it is now, the responsibilities of each job are listed in paragraph form when they should be listed as bullet points. This makes the material much easier to go through. If we were to reformat the information listed under RVD Construction Group LLC, it would appear like this:
Always include end dates for all places of employment
For the most part, this resume does a good job of listing when exactly he worked at each job. However, his most current place of employment lacks an end date, so a person reading this resume would not know if he was still working there or not. You always want to include end dates, and if you are currently working at a certain company, then you would want to say that. As such, the most recent place of employment should go like this: February 2010 Present
Use synonyms as often as you can
Each bullet point in the experience section should begin with an active verb in order to immediately grab the readers attention. However, it is important to mix up the types of verbs you use, so you are not just using the same ones over and over again. As we can see from the list above, two of the points begin with the word, Managed. If you wanted this to read better, you would simply want to find a different verb to start off one of the points, making it go like this:
