Start off with a summary
In the modern age of employment where there is such an overabundance of information being thrown at job recruiters, it is immensely helpful to have a summary section of your resume that addresses many of the most significant points. This applicant chose to only include her prior work history, and while that is certainly what potential employers most want to see, it should not come at the cost of a well-organized document. In this section, in addition to highlighting your work experience, also touch on a few of your winning personality traits as well as some of the skills you possess that most directly relate to the new position.
Condense major experience into a skills section
This applicant could do a lot more with her resume simply by breaking down the experience section to pull out the major lessons and skills acquired, and using them to create a specially designated skills or areas of expertise section. Adding this section serves a similar purpose to the summary section in that it is intended to allow hiring companies to quickly assess your compatibility for a position before reading into your more thorough descriptions. The need for brevity here cannot be overemphasized. Create a pair of bulleted columns with three to eight items each, using short phrases to express your strongest and most relevant abilities such as Teach daily living skills and Provide task assistance. It is crucial that the items you list be directly related to the position to which you are applying, as the inclusion of any irrelevant skills might come across as a lack of real expertise.
Avoid job descriptions
While the experience section of your resume should definitely be used for describing the kind of work you did or are currently doing, it should also contain a few of your specific contributions or accomplishments. Chances are that the person reading your resume has seen a multitude of other applications from people who have held positions similar to yours, so simply restated what was in the job description does not give the reader an idea of your aptitude.
