Always begin your resume with a summary
Every resume should begin with summary that is about a paragraph in length. You want to give the employer a good sense of what to expect for the rest of the resume and to make him or her eager to see what else you have to say.
Education should come after experiences
There is a certain structure hiring managers want to see with resumes, and that structure involves your education coming after your previous work history. The schools you went to are definitely important, especially if you studied something related to the field you want to get into. However, an employer wants to see what real world experiences you have gained first, so that section should come beforehand.
Bullet points should be used in accomplishments and experiences sections
This sample resume does not properly format the material underneath Accomplishments and Experience. All of the information is presented in paragraph form when it should actually be formatted using bulleted lists. Doing this makes the material easier to read, and it will be simpler for the hiring manager to go through everything. If we were to rewrite all the information given for her accomplishments, it would look like this:
In general, leave out religious information
The last bullet point in the accomplishments section mentions that she is involved with a prayer group at her church. Although hiring managers are not allowed to discriminate for religious beliefs, some may still not call you back based on that information. Generally speaking, you want to avoid any material on your resume that is related to your religious beliefs, sexual orientation or political views. It could jeopardize your chances of getting called back even if you are otherwise qualified for the job. In this case, it would be best to just leave it out.
Remove high school diploma
Due to the fact that she is continuing to pursue her education at Central Arizona College, we can reasonably assume that she graduated from high school first. How else would she have been accepted into college in the first place? In order to save space and not have redundant information, it is generally acceptable to eliminate information about high school if you are currently enrolled in college or have already earned your degree. Removing superfluous information like that will help get your resume down to a single page.
