There are numerous helpful ways to get better at writing resumes, and a truly effective way to get more efficient at this practice is to read a Christian elementary school teacher resume sample to see what someone else has done. Fortunately for you, our experts have read through one of these samples and have made notes on what can be improved with it. Here are a few ways in which this particular resume can be improved upon and some general advice on how to avoid common mistakes in writing your own resume.
Do not use first person in your resume
Nowhere in your resume do you want to have a sentence that starts off with the first person, especially in the summary section. The current summary has sentences like: I have six years experience in elementary and preschool education. I feel I have good interpersonal and organizational skills. It is perfectly fine to simply use sentence fragments in your resumes summary, and as such, the previous sentences can be phrased like this: Six years experience in elementary and preschool education. Good interpersonal and organizational skills.
Use bullet points in accomplishments section
The current accomplishments section has some good information that is worth bringing up on a Christian elementary school teacher resume. However, it is currently formatted in paragraph form when it should be formatted using bullet points. This will make the information much easier to read. The author of this resume could reformat this section to look like this:
Bullet points should also be used in experience section
This is the same rule as above where you do not want to have large, cumbersome paragraphs in your work experience section. Instead, the information should be divided with bullet points, allowing it to read much easier on the page. You should aim for having anywhere between three and eight bullet points per place of employment.
Current places of employment should use present tense
If you current work somewhere, the information listed in the bullet points should be listed in the present tense because you are presently doing the work. The information right now is written like this:
Instead, the information should be written like this:
Education section should have most recent information first
The education section on this resume sample currently has high school education listed first, and then she lists the degrees she got at universities. For each and every section, you always wanted to lead with your strongest foot, so college degrees should be listed first. In fact, if you have a college degree, you do not even have to put your high school education because it is assumed that if you went to college, you graduated from high school first. This will save you space on your resume and allow you to focus on the most relevant skills you possess.
