Writing an excellent resume is the best way to make a strong first impression on your potential employer. In order to help you out with this process, we have reviewed a Building Service Worker resume sample and have pointed out areas that could use work or improvement. Be sure to pay attention to these areas and avoid making the same common mistakes in your own resume writing.
The summary section has incredible potential. Not only is it a place where you can showcase your unique professional talents and qualifications, but doing so also could set you apart from other applicants. In this resume sample, the applicant has included some great details about his professional overview. He has, however, used the first person and complete sentences, both of which are not recommended for the summary. Consolidating the summary means choosing only the descriptions that are most captivating and authentic of your professional career. Keep in mind that ideally, your summary should be between 4 and 6 lines.
Accomplishments section should have at least 2 items
One of the mistakes many applicants make in their resume writing is believing that they need to have something in the accomplishments section. This section is for the purpose of listing specific awards and accomplishments rather than generic responsibilities. If you do not have more than two accomplishments, the information can be put into other sections. It is important to remember that not having an accomplishments section at all is perfectly acceptable. You will not be faulted for eliminating this section from the resume, but it may seem suspicious if the information you have listed there is not entirely relevant.
Always use bullets for listing items
The clarity of your writing is one of the most important features of your resume. You have to consider the fact that the employer reading your work will be reading over several other resumes as well. Therefore, you want yours to be as organized as possible. In this resume sample, the applicant has used spacing between descriptions, which is not as effective as bullet points. Notice the difference between these two entries: WRONG: Experience February 2007 to Current Etowah CountyGadsden, AL Building Service Worker Maintain appearance of inside of courthouse building and outside surroundings.
