The best way to create a building inspector assistant resume is to get advice from the experts. Your resume is your first impression and it is likely that yours will determine whether you even get the chance for an interview. Use the following building inspector assistant resume sample to learn what mistake to avoid and how you can optimize your resume.
Avoid big walls of text
The biggest problem this resume suffers from is obvious at a glance. It is not very inviting because it is a large chunk of text that is not broken up well. If this resume was submitted, it would be difficult for anyone to even read it because of how intimidating it is. Some of the longer lines should be separated with shorter points, so the text does not cover so much of the page. Additionally, the text starts very close to the left side of the page. Technically, the points are in a bulleted list, but it does not feel like it. Look how much easier to read it is if it is formatted like this:
Keep it relatively short
This is an especially long resume. Normally, it is best to limit your resume to a single page. If you are capturing more than 10 years of experience, as this resume is, it is acceptable to create a two-page resume because it will be necessary. However, there is no reason this resume must be this long. Instead of representing many different aspects of this persons skills, traits, abilities, and experiences, they have focused, almost entirely, on their employment history. Each position should be no more than eight bullet points, where the current employment here is nearly twice as long. If it was shortened and other sections, such as achievements, skills, or a larger education section, were added, it would read significantly easier. Lastly, the resume does not vary the language enough either. Notice that it uses the word responsible a whopping 11 times.
Add a proper summary
As for the actual content of the resume, the summary is too short. It does a good job of capturing the skills of the writer, instead of their goals or objectives, but it should be expanded to at least four lines. Often, this will be as far as employers read, so you need to start selling your abilities immediately. It should quickly summarize your experience, personality traits, and skill set, and then your resume can expand on these ideas.
Consolidate your highlights
Despite the short summary, this resume still takes a very long time to get rolling. Before the experience section, which is one of the most important that employers will be paying close attention to, it extrapolates on achievements and career specific achievements. There is no reason these points cannot be consolidated into one section and shortened. You do not want it to take up too much room, but always ensure you have at least three bullet points. Here is a much cleaner version: Achievements
