Use Short Phrases and Even Columns in Highlights
In this sample, the skills and highlights section is jam packed with compelling information. However, some of the details belong in other sections. Phrases like assessed patient needs and made timely decisions belong in either the professional experience or professional summary sections. Additionally, phrases in this section should rarely exceed 5 words and shouldnt be punctuated with periods. Another issue with this section is the uneven columns. Though it may seem like an innocuous visual detail, the resume is a visual document. Making yours look clean and neat is key to making should the document gives of the proper professional persona. Follow the Accepted Summary Format
In the professional summary section, you should use a paragraph format just like in the sample, but avoid using complete sentences. Instead, use 4 to 6 phrases written from the first person perspective and without pronouns. Highlight your professional experience so far, 2 or 3 competitive skills and a few desirable personal qualities, like so: Professional Summary Billing Manager experienced with commercial and private insurance carriers and with ICD-9, ICD-10 and ASC coding expertise. Administrative Assistant skilled at registering patients, scheduling appointments and recording and filing patient medical records as well as assessing patient needs and making timely decisions. Billing manager proficient with researching and resolving incorrect payments, EOB rejections, and other issues with outstanding accounts within standard billing cycle. Motivated professional with strong dedication to company efficiency and exceeding expectation.
Bullet Professional Experience
The professional experience section in this sample is lacking in formatting and content. First, the candidate should list all employment positions for the last twenty years even if they arent expressly relevant to a billing manager position. Having a work history of any kind shows you are capable of maintaining a position, which is important to a hiring manager. As for formatting, the phrases should begin with a verb and end with a period. The candidate actually does a great job of doing this overall and provides quality information. However, she should bullet the phrases under her experience entry.
