The process of writing your resume is an important one, as resumes are often the first impression of you that your potential employer will have. In order to make this impression an excellent one, your resume needs to be an authentic representation of your professional experiences and unique qualifications. The skills section is a place for you to list any relevant skills that would make you a great candidate for the job. In this sample resume, the applicant is applying for a bartending position and yet has mentioned hair braiding as a professional skill. Your employer does not need to know about hobbies or unrelated skills unless he or she asks in a conversational interview. Otherwise, be sure to list only relevant skills.
Consolidate job responsibilities
Describing the responsibilities for each previous position should be specific and concise. The applicant has listed 10 different items under one of the job listings. Notice the advantage of condensing descriptions. There are some responsibilities associated with each position that the employer should assume you have mastered. It is not necessary to include every duty performed.
Avoid repetitive language
Because resumes are brief, using repetitive language detracts from your application. Each word should provide new and specific information about your experience and qualifications. Employers could assume that you have not taken adequate time to proofread or write the resume if they detect too much repetition.
