Be sure to write out numbers below 10
One hard fast rule to remember is to always write out numbers when they are below 10. For example, the author of this assisted living CNA resume sample included in their summary that they have 3+ years of experience under their belt. While this may seem like something that isnt a big of a deal, it is a rule that almost all hiring managers are aware of and could quickly throw you out of the pool of eligible candidates. The applicant needs to simply change it to read Certified Nursing Assistant with three plus years experience
The only exception to this rule is when a sentence has a mix of numbers below and above the number 10, then it is acceptable to use numerals.
All lists need to include bullet points
A Highlights section in a resume is the perfect way to show off your working and personal skills, but it needs to be done in an orderly fashion. In the assisted living CNA resume sample that was reviewed by experts, half of the applicants attributes were bulleted and the rest were not. WRONG:
Computerized charting specialist Courteous demeanor Adaptive team player Strong problem solving ability RIGHT:
This is such an easy addition to prove that you know how to write a professional resume and will put you ahead of the pack that didnt include a tidy bulleted list.
Work experience bullet points need to be more than a few words
When writing about your work history, each position needs to display a wide variety of duties, responsibilities, and achievements you incurred. Each bullet point needs to describe in some detail either the task you performed, how it was accomplished, and/or the end results. The applicant in the assisted living CNA resume sample only included a few vague words to describe the hard work she put into her job. Here is a sample of what was listed and how it could be adjusted. WRONG: Legends Assisting living January 2012 to Current cna/cma Tulsa, OK
