We want you to succeed in your job search, and that is why we had our experts go through numerous resumes to learn what needs to be done to catch the eye of an employer. They went through an assistant car service manager resume sample, and there are several things within this one sample resume that can be made exceptionally better. Here are some general guidelines to consider when constructing your own resume.
Never use plurals within the summary
Although you do not want to include third person pronouns like I within your resume summary, you want to write out the sentences as though the I was there. For instance, take a look at this sentence on the resume sample: Maintains positive attitude and works hard to build team relationships. This is not what a hiring manager would want to see, and instead, the sentence should be rewritten to look like this: Maintain positive attitude and work hard to build team relationships. Minor grammatical errors like this one may not seem like much, but every tiny thing counts when it comes to impressing a potential employer.
Add bullets to create lists
Your summary should be a full paragraph; however, other sections of your resume such as accomplishments and work history should contain bulleted lists. The reason for this is to make the information easier to go through for the reader. Using the accomplishments portion of this sample resume as an example, you would want to add bullets like this:
Decide if achievements need to be in separate section
Employers like seeing accomplishments sections on resumes because it means you achieved something of note within your professional career. However, you can do more harm than good if you include material that would be better suited in different parts of your resume. Using this sample resumes accomplishments, we see that he put that he earned an Associate Degree within his accomplishments even though that point should go under education. Likewise, saying that he was promoted to assistant manager is great, but it might be better to put it in work history under the job where he received that promotion. You will need to decide for yourself whether you have earned enough legitimate achievements to warrant their own section.
Most recent information comes first
When a hiring manager reads a resume, he or she is going to reasonably assume that your jobs are listed from most recent to most distant. You do not want to begin you work experience section with a job you quit some time ago, and unfortunately, that is exactly what can be observed on this resume sample. You always want to start with whatever is most current and work your way backwards from there. Starting with an old job first is only going to create confusion.
Do not write in past tense for current jobs
Despite the fact that this person currently works at a position for Nelson-Wiberg Enterprise Group Inc, the points are written like this:
You want everything to adhere to proper grammar standards, so these points should really be in the present tense. For jobs you presently perform, write the bullet points like this:
