Writing your resume can be an intimidating task, especially considering your resume is the employers first impression of you. In order to help you out with the process of presenting your experiences and skills in an authentic and professional manner, we have evaluated an Animal Science Student resume sample. Areas that need improvement have been highlighted, and if you pay close attention, you can avoid making the same mistakes on your own resume.
Avoid using full sentences in summary
The summary is an excellent opportunity to provide a professional overview of your experiences and qualifications that could possibly set you apart from other candidates. Most people dont realize how much potential the summary section has. Think of it as a sales pitch that could hook the readers attention and could inspire him or her to continue reading your application. In this sample resume the applicant has provided some unique information; however, it has been written in an informal tone that lacks depth and individuality. Remember that it is best to avoid using pronouns and full sentences in the summary section. Instead, write concise and vivid fragments that offer insight to your profile.
Always use bullet points for listing items
The readability of your resume is one of its more important qualities. You must remember that your potential employer will have several resumes to read through, and if yours is even slightly disorganized, you may lose his or her attention. Bullet points may seem like a minor addition, but you might be surprised and how much of an improvement they can make. Notice the difference in these two formats: WRONG: Ranch hand Rocking M Ranch ? Do not leave sections incomplete
Although the example above has been corrected in terms of basic formatting, there are still some issues with the information presented. When you are describing your previous job responsibilities, you want to offer specific insight as to what you have been accountable for. Your employer does not want a vague overview of each job, but rather skills that you gained from your time there. In this sample resume, the applicant has left out crucial information regarding previous employment. Dates of employment should be listed with each job as well as at least 3 bullet points of descriptive information. If you are ready to move forward in the process of writing your resume, you might consider consulting the experts.
