Resumes can be difficult to write because you need to convey a ton of information about your professional life in approximately one page. There are various tips for making a resume that will capture the attention of any employer, and we have asked our experts to help you out a little bit. We had them go through an airport base manager resume sample to see if anything could be learned from it, and there is a whole lot to learn.
Accomplishments section needs a minimum of three achievements
Including an entire portion of your resume to your professional accomplishments can be a great way to make your application truly unique. However, if you are going to go through the trouble of making a wholly new section, you need to be certain that it is justified and that you are not just putting it there to sound impressive. The standard rule to abide by is to include at least three bullet points within a separate achievements section. This sample resume only has one, so it would be best to simply move it to the appropriate place in the work history section.
Implement bullet points for work experience and accomplishments
Bulleted lists are highly useful in resumes because they allow you to convey a bunch of information concisely. Even if we eliminated the accomplishments section from this resume sample, you would still want to add bullets to work experience. Therefore, we would want the material given for his time as a Pilot/Base Manager at FlightWorks Inc. to go like this:
However, there is still more we can do to make this section really stand out.
Provide at least five points for each job
Not a lot of information is provided for any of the positions he lists under work experience. Any job requires employees to assume numerous tasks and responsibilities, so there must be something he can add to make these positions more descriptive. The general recommendation is to have between five and eight bullet points for each place of employment. For this sample resume, this means he would want to come up with a few extra things to say about every place he has worked at.
Clarify any affiliations you have held
Affiliations and memberships are great to put on a resume, particularly if they are related to the field you are applying to enter. However, you generally do not want to include affiliations to which you no longer belong to unless you held a leadership position. This sample resume may be fine, but there are a few things that can be done just to clarify whether this information should be presented. First, we are only given the date, 09/2013, so he would want to specify whether that is when he joined or quit. Additionally, if he did in fact hold some kind of leadership role, then he should definitely put that as well.
If you want, include additional educational information
This resume sample has a very good education section, but since this resume is a little short of a page, you could always add some extra information if you wanted. You do not need to do this if you do not want, but you can always include coursework you took at a university. Typically, you would only want to include classes that are relevant to the field you are applying to. Again, this is not mandatory, but it is something to think about.
