Writing a resume is one of the most difficult tasks for when you are searching for a position, but it could single handedly decide whether you get called in for an interview. Make sure your summary is actually a summary
Up until now, it has been typical to start a resume with your objectives. Now, it is proper to include a summary instead, because your objectives can be assumed. The summary listed here is: Seek a full time administrative position to best utilize my organizational and people skills. Strong typing and computer abilities with a desire to work with and assist others. First of all, this summary is too short. When writing yours, you should aim for four to six lines. Secondly, the first half of this summary is actually an objective in disguise. Unlike the first sentence, your entire summary should overview your experience, highlight skills, and list personality traits. The second sentence more closely resembles what the summary should look like.
Proper present tense and pronoun use
The most recent employment that is listed looks like this: Bar-Zion Orthodontics Schedule Coordinator Newbury Park, CA
The form for some of these points is incorrect. Some of them, however, are correct, which is another problem. Even if they are listed wrong, being consistent is most important. The first three are in the past tense, while the rest are in the present tense. This is the current employment, which means the entire list should be present tense. Previous employments should be in the past tense. Additionally, verbs like, Ensures, Prepares, and Handles should be Ensure, Prepare, and Handle. To be sure you have it right, imagine the phrase with a pronoun. It would be I prepare, not I prepares.
Do not include high school education
Unless it is your only educational experience, you should not include your high school. In this case, the writer may have neglected their college education because they are currently earning their degree. It is okay to list college education as in progress or mention the anticipated graduation date. In this way, you can include what degree you will eventually earn. Of course, this is only beneficial if the degree is related to the field you are applying for. If not, you should try and find some experience that does relate, whether it is volunteer or internship work, to include.
Leave out your references
This resume ends with: References Available upon request. Saying that references are available upon request is never a good idea. This is assumed to be the case, but you are also wasting valuable space that could be used for important information. Even listing actual references on the resume is a bad idea. This resume is already on the short side, even with a reference section. Instead, consider including a Professional Memberships, Affiliations, Achievements, or Awards section. Being able to completely fill the page gives a very good impression.
