Letter to QuintZine from Gail H.:
As a mature jobseeker, I am very troubled by all of the illegal/discriminatory practices that employers still persist with in spite of the law.
I have had two interviews within the last three months (involving non-profit organizations) and have had such rudeness from them (my being from the South and having nasty remarks made by northerners about southerners — not to mention illegal questions pointing to “age” discrimination).
Reporting them doesn’t matter since EEOC will not do anything about it since no one can witness the incident for fear of job loss on their part.
What is one to do? It is most distressing to go to countless interviews only to have this repeated (either by being carefully looked over — searching for the gray hair/facial lines that go with maturity) and knowing that there will be NO job offer for me.
Thank you for the wonderful work done for us job seekers.
