Family Alumni/Donor History and College Legacy Programs
Some colleges — especially smaller, private schools — do take into consideration whether previous family members have attended.
Does it help to have family members who have attended the colleges you are applying to? It depends on a number of factors, but unless they had a negative impact on the school, at least it can’t hurt your chances!
Some applications will actually have a space for you to list any family members who have attended the school.
Your Goal? Ask all your extended family members about where they attended college. And if any of them happen to be donors to the school you’re applying to, even better.
