It's important to strategize the job application process by searching in the right places and adjusting your resume and cover letter regularly (this cannot be emphasized enough). Looking outside the big job boards (like Indeed) is also an excellent way to go. Start by utilizing your older academic connections. If you still have access to your university's job board, use it! Connect with teachers and classmates through Facebook and LinkedIn. if you find jobs on LinkedIn that you are interested in applying for, check to see if you have a friend or acquaintance who works at the company. He or she might be able to act as a referral for you.
Don't forget the importance of showing your value. Numbers matter to both employers and the ATS. Focus on quantifiable value when listing accomplishments on your resume (and not job duties). Do the same thing with your LinkedIn profile. Also on LinkedIn -- let recruiters know that you are open to new job possibilities.
