Many introverts become very accomplished individual contributors and are highly valued for their specialized technical, mechanical, analytical, or creative talents. Yet they have also cultivated collaboration and communication skills, which has given them visibility.
What are examples of good careers for introverts? For some, it may be fieldwork, such as surveyors, inspectors, repair and installation personnel, and skilled trades. For others, it may be desk work such as research and data analysis, financial management, software testing/development, web development, content production, editing or legal services.
But remember. being an introvert simply means that you draw energy from working alone or among a small group of trusted colleagues. It doesn’t mean that you lack social skills, emotional intelligence, or professional presence.
And as we’ve said before, being an introvert is not a destiny. Any number of career or life experiences can lead you to become less introverted later, just as any number of prior experiences could have disposed you to being more introverted now. Don’t get locked into a career path solely on the basis of how introverted you are now.
