There are things that may be going on beyond your control, such as the hiring needs changing so another candidate is selected, you're overqualified and the employer is afraid you won't stick around long, or the hiring manager decides to hire an old friend from college. The key at this point is to try to get a handle on what is happening.
For example, after your interview is concluded, ask the hiring manager if she has any questions or concerns you can address. Or, ask a qualified friend or career coach to "test" interview you to see if you're communicating poorly or give too many rambling, unfocused answers. Also, now is the time to tap into your network – ask them for advice and let them know you're looking for a job.
