Some of the highest paying jobs that don’t require a college degree include operators in chemical plants, refineries, petroleum or gas pump systems, and both conventional and nuclear power plants. Among the highest paying mechanical jobs are boilermakers, power line technicians, elevator mechanics, and supervisors of front-line technicians, tradespersons, and production personnel. Building, property, and transportation inspectors are also some of the highest paying jobs not requiring a bachelor's degree.
Keep in mind the path to getting these jobs often includes vocational coursework, serving an apprenticeship, certification / licensing or ongoing training.
As with any well-paying job, you need to invest in yourself, taking responsibility for accumulating the specialized skills and abilities the job requires. The earlier you start the better. Your classroom is on the job, and you need to be a diligent student. As you gain those skills and abilities, be sure to update your resume, especially if you’ve reached a career milestone or have recently been promoted.
