Careers that do not involve typical 9-5 hours include those in the retail and restaurant fields, as well as events planning. Positions in those fields are wide ranging and the hours vary greatly. Real estate is another field that typically does not involve 9-5 hours. You will likely need to adhere to your clients’ schedules, but it does offer a lot of flexibility, including when you show houses to potential buyers.
Are you into health and fitness? If so, perhaps a role as a personal trainer would work well for you. It is likely you will meet with your clients before or after their jobs (which are quite frequently 9-5 jobs). If you are looking for more traditional types of office work, you might consider inside sales roles, where the hours will be more standard, but you might be able to work from home.
If you settle on a career and are interviewing, but need some flexibility in your schedule, consider broaching the subject with the hiring manager. There are many companies that might consider a flexible schedule depending on the nature of the work the company does. Be sure to do research on the companies you are pursuing. You might find that from your research they offer flexibility in some roles.
