For most jobseekers, building a fancy or creative resume is a lot of work for little reward. The biggest risk is that the fancy or creative elements could interfere with scanning by the ATS, as most are not configured to parse non-standard resume formats. If the ATS cannot parse your resume, it does not pass.
A fancy resume can be a virtue in some situations, for example applying for a creative job where you need to demonstrate your skills starting with your resume. But it cannot be gratuitously showy, or make it difficult for a reader to understand who you are at a glance.
You've got the right idea by wanting your resume to stand out. But for most job seekers it is better to go practical than fancy. Stand out by using the right keywords and phrases that show both the ATS and the hiring manager you are a near perfect match.
