A functional resume groups your experience by your skills, rather than by your job title. Your jobs do appear on your functional resume, but they are typically listed one after another. And, your work experience is all mixed together – under headings that describe your skills.
A functional resume is often used when you're going through a career transition. It can help to take the focus away from the specific jobs you have held and put more emphasis on your skillset.
One thing to remember: A resume is typically one or two pages. A CV can be very long. As you work to convert your CV into a resume, you will likely need to condense a considerable amount of the information down. You may want to do this by removing information that is not typically included on a resume, such as specific publications you have been featured in.
