You find purpose in your career by evaluating the things that you enjoy doing vs. the things that you find to be tedious or boring. As people, we have multiple interests – and multiple things that inspire us. While it might be difficult to identify a career path, there are some things you can do to help you figure out your first steps.
There are many career assessment and self-assessment tools available online, some of which are free, and some of which might help put you in the right direction. While many of the assessments will likely confirm the things you already know, you might uncover some new insights that can lead you further down a path. Create a list of your strengths and weaknesses to help you better understand the areas where you might want to focus your energies. Once you have those things covered, start conducting some online research. You might attend networking meetings, or engage with people you already know who are in careers they find satisfying. You could also explore setting up some informational interviews to find out what other people do, and what their jobs are like at particular companies.
