You can expect the Frito-Lay hiring process to be rigorous and thorough, as the company is one of the world’s most valuable and respected brands. Frito-Lay will aim to select people who will burnish, not tarnish a brand whose prestige has been earned over many decades.
Production and driving positions are some of the most critical and popular Frito-Lay jobs, for which the hiring process typically takes 4-8 weeks and involves multiple steps.
Depending on the role, the process may begin with a work sample test, followed by a series of phone screens, which are usually scheduled within 1-2 weeks of receiving an application. Next, the candidate will be invited for a set of in-person interviews, which often occur in one session. Driving jobs involve a ride-along to assess people skills and overall fit. Candidates who are offered jobs will be required to pass a background check, drug test, and in some cases a DOT physical exam.
Frito-Lay conducts some of the strictest background and drug tests in the industry. Those having adverse information in their background may wish to discuss it prior to the check being conducted to avoid surprises, especially if it relates to something directly relevant to the job.
Candidates for professional and managerial jobs can expect a Fortune 100-grade hiring process.

Each company has a different approach to finding and hiring employees. If you have applied to Frito-Lay, understanding what the Frito-Lay hiring process is like can help prepare you and calm your nerves. The hiring process at Frito-Lay is fairly involved, so expect a hiring manager to keep asking you for more information. After completing the online application, there are several more steps you must take before finding out whether you got the job.
There is an assessment and a mechanical/technical test to take, followed by a telephone interview if you pass both exams. Depending on how your telephone interview goes, the next step is a face-to-face interview. After the face-to-face interview, the hiring manager will inform you about a background and drug test you must pass before proceeding further. In some cases, someone might ask you to do a ride along, and some candidates may receive a written job offer contingent on the results of the drug and background check. There have been instances where a hiring manager asks a candidate for a third interview. It can take a few weeks to get the results of your drug and background check, so don’t get discouraged if you don’t hear anything right away. The entire process can take up to six weeks, so be patient and stay positive.

There are so many holes in everything you said. That was not at all my hiring experience. They are not nearly as stringent as you claim, in fact I never had one single phone interview, I don't even remember any "assessments", unless you mean the usual "what would you do if" type questions any job asks when you first apply.
