If you would like to try to salvage a professional opportunity, you can follow up with the interviewer. Do not contact an employer to apologize unless you have given offense. Instead, consider providing relevant information about yourself that you forgot to mention or simply thank the interviewer for their time.
You may want to consider requesting a second interview if extenuating circumstances played a part in a bad interview. It is best to make this request over the phone rather than via email. If you schedule a do-over, you should not over-rehearse, but identify a few areas in which you would like to improve and try to come off as a gracious professional.
