An example of a situational question that may come up is, "How would you work with at-risk students?" In your answer, your goal is to show the interviewer you understand the rigors of the position and can motivate students of all backgrounds. Suggest that you would work with students to set personal goals and check in regularly on their progress. You might also help them get involved with extracurricular activities or sports.
A more straightforward interview question you may have to answer is, "Why are you the best person for this role?" Be prepared to talk about unique aspects that make you a great fit, as most all candidates for the job have similar educations and certifications. Instead of focusing on these credentials, turn the attention to experiences, skills, and achievements that make you a well-rounded guidance counselor.
