The truth is that it does not really matter how you include your cover letter in your email. Employers probably have a preference, but it is always different and none of them penalize applicants for using the wrong method. You should not worry about this aspect because it really is a very small matter.
However, it is not unheard of for an employer to have a strong opinion on the matter. If they do, you can find this requirement in the job description. If you see no mention of it, rest assured that you can do whatever you think is best. Including it as an attachment makes it is easier to share with other hiring staff, but including it in the body of the email makes it readily available and easily accessible. Doing both strategies offer the best of both worlds. While this detail is not a big deal, you should know somemistakes do actually hurt your chances.
