Some ways to get a job at Google or Facebook involves multiple steps. First, you should research each company. Learn which department you would like to work in and which role you’re the best fit for within the company. Then, look at each company’s website; specifically, their Jobs or Careers sections. Locate any open positions that are the best fit for your skills, experience, and interest.
If you have a contact at Google or Facebook, this is a great time to reach out to them. Both companies allow current employees to provide candidate referrals. And, an internal referral will make it more likely that a hiring manager will see your resume. If you have an internal contact, it’s important to reach out to them before you apply. They will likely want to send you a special link for a referral application, or they might want to submit your resume for you so that they receive credit for the referral. Many tech companies provide their employees a referral bonus if they’re able to help find qualified candidates who are hired.
If you don’t have an internal connection at the company, you can still apply online. Be sure that your resume and cover letter show that you meet the needs and requirements of the job description. The more your skills and experience align with the company’s needs, the more likely you are to land an interview.
Once you do have an interview, it’s important to prepare. Research questions that past candidates have received at Google and Facebook and be prepared to answer these questions (You can use Glassdoor to research possible interview questions). And if you’re a technical candidate, do research into what sorts of coding tests or challenges each company may present. The more prepared you are, the more you’ll increase your odds of being hired at Google or Facebook.
